Fuel Economy on a 97 LE 4cyl automatic (80k on her)

Long time reader, first time poster. I got a 97 Camry LE about two years ago after my Buick LeSabre died on me. The Camry is a great car and its my second one. Originally had a 91 Camry DX V6 when i first got my liscense back in 99. Too bad I hit another car at 40mph and wrecked it. That was a great car.

Anyhow, I was checkin out the specs for the car and noticed somethin. For fuel range it said 425.5 - 555 miles. I was shocked when i saw this. I'm gettin no where near these miles unless I take a long road trip on the interstates. When it comes time to fill up the car the needle is usually under the 1/4 tank mark. Milage about that time is usually 330 or so. My everyday driving takes me on the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway every day. I got a bit of a heavy foot, i do about 80mph on both roads. I don't like to floor it and usually press down enough that it shifts between 3000-4000 on the tach. Maintence is pretty regular, oil changes every 3000 miles and anything major is handled down at the dealer. Can anyone suggest what I should have the dealer look at or what I could possibly do? I really enjoy this car and plan on keepin it for a long time but being a college student that commutes back and forth gas mileage is a huge issue.

Thanks in advance!
Adam
(I'll take a pic when it comes time to fill up the car)

I have a 94 i4 LE; I can squeeze at least 400 out of a single tank on the highway. I don't know if this would apply to your 97, but when my low fuel light starts to intermittenly come on/off, it's got about 5 gallons left in the tank. When it solidly lights, I've got less than 3. And yes, I've driven 70+ miles with this light no. By the way, you might want to post some info about yourself & your ride in me/mine/mods. Good luck with you Cam.

Go a little lighter on the pedal, that might help fuel economy. Also, if you drive the car till the gas tank is empty you'd get more total miles. I've never seen how low the needle will go when you actually run out. I get my panties tied in a knot if the gas light goes on.

I never did m/m/m :p
