I just got my '95 LE a couple months ago, it's still within 3,000 miles of the previous oil change. But at about 3,000 miles I'll be changing it myself with Castrol GTX and a Toyota filter / new crush washer. At that point I'll be changing it every 4,000 miles.
And a new oil pan drail plug - do you know that the Toyota dealer charges something like $3.75 for that bolt? One for the Honda is $1.00.
By the way, I'm still looking for an online store that sells Toyota branded filters at a discount (hopefully less than $5 each, after shipping, in quantities of 6 or 10 or so).
With only 54K you can switch to Mobil 1, the oil would last you about 4000-5000miles. Its also on sale at advance auto parts for $18!
Is that $18 for a gallon (4 quarts), or 5 quarts? Wal-Mart carries it for about $22 per 5 quart jug (I use Mobil 1 in my Volvo wagon, it's a turbo so burns hotter, needs the synthetic).

I would change the oil every 5K if you drive a lot of highway. If you have a lot of short trips in stop and go traffic then I would change it out every 3K. Short trips are murder on your oil because it starts to collect moisture, that's a bad thing. Dino oil should suffice if you don't want to shell out for the synth. You can get some pretty good deals on eBay for your oil filters. I got 10 filters shipped for about $4 each. Try getting them from trdpart4u.com or toyotaworld.com too.
