3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Ok well as i have postd i recently purchased a 1995 camry. one of the small improvements i have decided to take on this week is the emblem and grille. When purchased it had a painted black grille, missing and emblem on it. never owning a camry before i figure i would just order an emblem from dealership, now i get the emblem from dealership and it matches the part number listed in that camry manual somebody posted on this message board. but it doesnt fit in the grille . the grill is more of a flat area for emblem with some screw holes on it. as opposed to the emblem i got from dealership that has more of a look like it would fit in a "recessed" area So WTH is going on?
So since i didnt want my $23 purchase from toyota to go unused lol. i decided to order a new grille on ebay which specifically said for 1995-1996 camry. i get the thing in mail today, and it is almost same as the grille on the car. flat area fro emblem, and the holes dont match up.
SO i was wondering does this sound like the grille on the car is a 1994 or before camry grille? or is it even from the camry? sorry didnt take pics of this,
PS MECHANIC "found" me a grille from some camry (dont know what year) but it is gray and had a gold beat up emblem ( car is black with chrome badging) and the emblem from the dealership matched up perfect with it. I called a local body shop and they said they would charge about $70 to paint it. Still wondering if i could get away with a can of spray paint, without it looking too bad.
The 95-96 uses a different grille then the 92-94, so I would imagine that the dealer gave you the wrong emblem, because you cant interchange the grilles without some modifications.
well my 94 was flat with screw holes too. i think thats how they come. and the dealership gipped ya on that emblem.
yeah, im thinking something happened to the car before i purchased it, and somehow they might have put on a grille from a different year or model. because i also noticed one of the headlights assemblies was the original toyota one, and the other was an aftermarket.
and yes the dealership price for the emblem was ridiculous lol. but i was thinking it was going to save me some time lol. it got here quick, didnt count on the other problems lol

yeah im trying to see if somehow the previous owner put a 92-94 grille on the car and thats why the emblem i ordered from dealership didnt fit.
If you look at the 92-94 grilles you will notice the difference instantly. the 92-94 grills are like (HEADLIGHT/GRILLE\HEADLIGHT) and the 95-96 are like (HEADLIGHT\GRILLE/HEADLIGHT) i dont know if that makes any sense to you but its the best i can do. WTF! this is an odd smiley?

thanks i think i understand , and if i do it helps alot, now that means either i understand correctly and dealership had wrong emblem in package, or i have some freak mutated camry lol
U may have a "freakin mutated camry" ...The emblem on my 96 grille had peg holes, I took it off to paint it and broke the pegs...Used 3m tape to put it back on!....It worked! ....Toyota is constantly changing how they apply emblems from Gen to Gen...not really sure why!!

Just take a picture of what you have??? Im sure somebody will be able to help you out. I have a 1996 camry and I dont think I even have holes in my emblem. It must be glued or something. Maybe I'M an idiot but I believe thats how mine is.

good luck,

ok, here goes, hopefully somebody can tell what the grille the mechanic threw in my trunk is from, as you can see it has the lil indentation spot for the emblem to fit in , and dont think it uses glue, like the one that is on the car that looks like it uses screws or pegs, and glue.
also some photos of the emblem and part number on bag,

yeah , the one on the ground. im not sure what its from, but it matches up with the emblem the dealership sold me, the one that is actually on the car right now. doesnt match up to the emblem the dealershp sold me. ( they said it was for a 1995) the ebay link , looks more like the grille already on the car ( already bought one of those, its sitting in closet because it doesnt match up with the emblem either lol) so im thinking what i have on the car is a 1995, so now im thinking dealership might have wrongly packaged the emblem , or something wrong on their end.
