3rd Generation Weird Transmission Problems

My car is a 92' camry with 5s-fe 113,xxx miles

I have had a lingering transmission problem for the past few months and last night it got worse. It happens on the 1 to 2 up shifts and it feels like a lack of power in second gear.

The car stays at 2200 rpms and feels bogged down, the engine rmps stays the same even if you put the pedel to the floor. The thing that worries me which happened last night was the O/D light on the dash has started flahsing when the problem arises. The car then feels bogged down for the rest of the time you drive it until its turned off and it seems to reset.

I read in the repair manual when the light flashes its the shift solenoids or the speed sensors. Does any one have experiece with this problem and could share any info, Please???

Just curious .... have you ever, or recently, changed the transmission fluid?

Checked Oil

I'm pretty sure it was changed when i bought it. 10,xxx miles ago. The fluid is red and comes up to the hot measurement on the dipstick.

Take it to Autozone, they will hook up the checker and it will tell you what's wrong. Looks like the tranny is taking a dump, but good luck!

3rd Generation Please Help!!

I've driven the car multiple times now and knoticed that the problem doesn't happen if driving the car gently. It only happens or so it seems to happen when accelerating fast in first when the car has to upshift at 4000 rpm. Shift Solenoid?? Has anyone ever had problems with one of these and could share? I'm in desperate need of any info. Thanks

I had the same problem, felt ok on local roads but got worse on the highway, by this time it was bogging hard. My fluid was still red but my mechanic said doesnt matter my transmission was shot and I had to get it rebuilt.

Pull the pan. (Don't move the magnets, or note their positions.) Remove the shift solenoids noting which one has a black wire and which one is white, and test them with an air nozzle set at less than 60 PSI. Press the nozzle in the end opening and put 12 volts to the solenoid. (I hooked negative to the case and then touched pos to the wire.) The air should come out the smaller round holes. Once they are clicking freely and without hesitation each time you connect the 12 volts you can reinstall and refill with fresh fluid. I used a new gasket and mesh filter. Worked for me!
