3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Anyone know anything about a 2001 XLE Collector's Edition?
I'm trying to sell my mom's car but I have no idea what makes the car so special. It seems like a regular XLE to me except with a Collector's Edition badge. Anyone care to enlighten me on this?
Did you buy the car new or did you move to Daly City from another state? It looks like something that Gulf States Toyota would sell. The only thing that looks special is the two tone paint job. Those are not common.
In 2001, there was a Gallery Edition that was an official Toyota model, which had 2 tone paint and unique rims and a couple other things.
Interesting. The car was bought new from the dealership. Do you think they'd be able to tell us what's special about the car? My mom was told the car is like 1 out of 10 cars in production.

Absolute nonsense. Maybe 1 of 10 cars that specific dealership was allocated. The only thing "special" on those vehicles was the two tone paint and the emblems. They were only "limited" to however many they could sell . Jon. p.s. if it was Gulf State car it would have a fake convertible top on it, they truly configure some horrid cars.
it does resemble the older ES models with the two tone paint job / leather & wood interior
but i seen 01 ES sell for 15K nowadays
i rather get a real Lexus instead
but expect to see 50K+ mileage

Thanks for clarifying that. I forgot to say the dealership also told her the car is like a Lexus. LOL
The ES300 is basically a Camry with different sheet metal.
A fully loaded Camry XLE V6, IIRC, cost around the same as a base model ES300 at the time and I think the XLE would be equipped slightly better. Major difference was that the ES300 had VVTi which added about 20 HP.
I just bought a low mileage Collector's Edition and I have the original dealer's sticker for my unit. Mine is described as a Camry LE V6 with the "Collector's Edition" (option "ZE") added for an additional (MSRP) charge of $4,122. It included the following:
16" Alloy Wheels W/P205/60R16 Tires, Lthr wrap steer wheel, JBL 3-in-1 w/In-Dash CD Chngr & 8 Spkrs, Auto Climate Cntrl, Keyless Entry, Chrm Tip Exhst, Unique Lthr Pwr Drvr Seat, Wood Trim Dash, Two-Tone Ext Point, Daytime Running Lights, Special Badges, Logo and Floor Mats, Auto Dimmng Mirror."
I believe that the interior color was limited to a (medium) oak as well...
In my region, The 01's that had the two-tone where labled as "Gallery Edition"

speaking of "special edition" camrys, ive spotted several gen 3's that have 2 tone paint. there was one on sale on ebay. it was a coupe with a paint job similar to a green es300. ive also seen a white with beige gen 3 with gold emblems and unique oem rims.
The only thing these 'special' or collectors/gallery editions in the US,
Or single tone, no auto dim rear mirror Gold editions in Canada were the trim options which would make it almost par with a Lexus ES. Short the dual throttle VVTi and heated leather seats.

Collectors:

XLE:
Leather Optional (*Note leather is fake)
Colelctors:
Leather Standard (*Still fake leather)
XLE:
Plain Black-Dash
Collectors:
Faux-Wood grain pannels on dash and door buttons
XLE:
Improved Sport-Tuned Suspension
Collectors:
Standard LE Suspension
Other Collector Edition Features:
Pannel under the hood to reduce engine noise
Leather trimmed door pannels (& possible sound reduction)
Dual chrome tipped exhaust
If I had any pictures of my camry online, I would make a link to them... but alas I do not have any photos. But it sort of looks like a mix between a Lexus LS400 and ES300 with the pearl white paint job w/grey as the 2nd tone. It has really nice alloy wheels from the lexus brand (but with the toyota logo over the lug nuts). And it has held up really well. It's still my daily commuter with over 260,000 miles! They should sell the plans to this car to GM/Chrysler and have them make it, I'd totally buy another one!
