Performance upgrades for 3.0LV6?

Newbie here so bear with me.

My girlfriend has this old 1994 2door v6 Camry that wasn't running untill I got my hands on it. I have never owned a Toyo so I don't know much as to what's available for performance upgrades. The camry has a 147K on it but seems to run ok, its a little weak for a v6 in my opinion. I'm looking for suggestions on easy bolt-on upgrades. What plugs give the best performance? Are there aftermarket coil-packs that are better than stock? cold air intakes? big bore throttle bodies? Any help would be appreciated. I think this car has the potential to be a little barnstormer.

Thanks!
-jim

Lightbulb

I began a thread ("Most/Best Built-up 3.0L 3VZ-FE V6 (especially Gen 3)?" with some of the same questions, asking mainly who already had built-up V6s. There's some pretty good information in here. The main theme seems to be "You can spend hundreds and not get more than 10 hp. You can spend thousands and get as crazy as you're willing to go/spend on it, and get the hp way up there." Take a peek.

I'm thinking you have the next generation V6, the 1MZ-FE, which has even more tuning/upgrade/modification possibilities! If you'll do a search with "1MZ-FE" "turbo" and "Toysrme" you'll find some awesome information on the optimal upgrade - the turbo.

what kind of budget do you have for the car?

If it's in the hundreds or just a couple of thousand you really arent going to get much powerwise out of this car, you can pick up a supercharger for a few thousand and that would give you a good amount of power. Other than that it's really only less restrictive exhaust, maybe a cai, and a few other small things but you wont gain more than a tiny bit of hp all together. Or you could of course just give it a nice "nos" setup and that would be ur best bang for the buck"

Really unless your extremely dedicated to this car and willing to spend a lot of money on it you're not going to get much performance at all. So unless your willing to go supercharged or custom turbocharged I would reocmmend just doing minor stuff like exhaust/intake, and then some nice appearane mods like rims, tints, etc and a nice sound system.

The most responsive, cheapest modification for the toyota V6's is nitrous oxide from what ive heard the engines can easily take it. As for parts there is no aftermarket love for the V6's.

there are VERY few bolt ons. there just became avalible headers and Y-pipe(the headers do nothing but the Y-pipe is the best mod u can do for the money besides turbo, S/C or nitrus). AEM makes a CAI and u can get an SIR on ebay for cheap(neither do much but sound good). all turbo, nirtus and S/C applications are the next step and ALL require fabrication and wont just bolt on. the gen3 camry is a bad car to mod when it comes to bolt ons, but if u have the money and the time then the 1mz, which u have, has plenty of potential. heres a key to remember friend, mod it cuz u love it. thats the reality of the camry tuning scene.

welcome to TN

P.S. post up some pics man, coupes are rare around here and we all love them

Thanks to everyone who has responded. My budget is in the $100s not $1000s so no turbo or supercharger. The Y pipe is definitely going on the list. So just what are the best performing sparkplugs and does everyone remove the intake manifold to get to the rear bank?

Thanks again!

^^no you dont have to but it makes it easier. Youll need one of those hinge type attachments if you dont remove the plenum...
