timing belt question

HI,

is good pratice to keep the timebelt a little loose when replace a new timebelt?

what do you mean? have you actually read the workshop manual? there is a procedure involved. it usually involves turning the crankshaft to get the correct tension. have a look at the manuals posted in the camry general forum and look for the procedure involved for your type of engine, which you didn't give any details about btw.

there is a spring that puts tension on the belt. i found that spring alone doesnt give enough tension and my belt slapped. i used a pry bar to give some more tension. once, i gave it too much tension and it gave the motor like an electronic sound at idle. (i think that sound was because of the strain on the oil pump from the belt being too tight.)
