I always take my car to a dealership (easy for me to say since I work at one)...but, that way I have records and I know I won't F anything up...and they can deal with the time and effort...

What does your owner's manual say?

The manual for my '95 recommends 10W30 unless the temp is dropping below 0ºF, in which case it recommends 5W30 (it's harder to start an engine with 10W30 oil in freezing temperatures). Then again, my '99 Honda Accord's manual recommends 5W30 at all times. But from what I've read, the differences between 5W30 and 10W30 are pretty small so either would work year round unless you live in the northern states I guess.

And I'm not familiar with 10W40, what would you gain by using that? I seriously doubt that your owner's manual even mentions 10W40 but was just wondering why you brought it up.
