GEN 4 Governor Removal

Hey guys, I was just wondering how you would go about removing the governor on a 99 camry 4 cyl.

I know I dont have my car turbo'd or anything yet but I was wanting to get the governor removed on mine. I know mine kicks in around 115 depending if Im going up or down a hill (we have a lot of rolling hills in oklahoma....and alot of unpoliced straight roads). I really just want to see how much more I can squeeze out of my camry without it while its stock before I start dumping money into the cars engine.

I know that you can replace the ECU, but is there a way to just remove a fuse on the ECU or circuit or a way to flash program it. Any ideas?

It'll probably hit 120 at best. but I was unaware that the GEN 4s even had a governor.... they are too slow

It does, cause at like 115 the engine shuts off completely and restarts around 110mph

My car doesn't do that, when i hit 140, i was actually close to 7k rpm...didn't hit revlimiter or anything....and it was constant power, it didn't cut out or anything...

maybe its due to my crappy 4 cylinder. I just felt like it was hitting a governor.

To my knowledge, (and I don't claim to be an expert), there's a speed limiter in the ECU. If you disconnect the wire you get a check engine light. But there are shops which can reprogram the ECU. Probably around $300. BTW, my '01 I4 must have one of the lowest limits ever mentioned-tops out at around 96MPH. P.S. only Okie? where'd you get that?
