Lightbulb DIY Intake from Stock Box

I was about to get an intake (Weapon-R), but while I was hesitating whether I should spend all that money, an idea popped into my head. Why not cut a hole on the bottom of the filter box on the intake to allow more air?

I did some googling which brought me to a few sites that people have thought of before me:
http://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1189646.phtml

Pretty much, can anyone give me some PROs and CONs of this idea? This is of course leaving everything stock with the rectangular filter.

Why do you think your stock box is restricting the airflow? Is your engine trying to suck more than the stock box and filter will flow?

my 2 cents...build a CAI or put a cone filter where the old box was to get some delicious sound. other then that, uve just wasted ur money...even more.
