Injector Rubber Seals @ Head

Folks,

Am having a problem. Trying to reassemble a 94 LE 4cyl, non Calif. 4 door, after head gasket replacement.

Have made it to the point of reassembling the fuel rail & injectors.

The rubber seals that seat the injectors into the head are brittle, so I have hunted and ordered a seal kit.

Problem is that the new rubber seals don't seem to fit well, certainly not as well as the custom seals they replace.

The new ones are like thick washers, kind of plain. They don't have any lips or shapes that fit the injector tip or the head. The old ones do.

All aftermarket seals I've found so far are like the new ones. I haven't been to the dealer, but its Saturday and he's closed.

Anybody else run into this? Are the new ones ok, even though they fit differently? Advice anybody????

I haven't done mine yet, but I would say that it wouldn't hurt to just give them a try

just make sure that you torque them to spec. worste come to worst, you'll just have to replace them with the dealer ones. not too big of a job.

Edit: you ARE just talking about the fuel rails, right?

Yes, fuel rail to injector is ok, new o-rings fit right.

But new insulators that snap into the head and hold the other ends of the injectors aren't fitting like I expected.

Dealer was open. Parts guys had same new seals as I did, which did not match originals. Service mechanic told me they don't make those original seals, and that they would re-use the old seals in nearly all cases, unless they have a vac leak, then they would find and reuse some from another car.

He had a couple of old salvage heads in his truck, which he let me pilfer a set of seals from --- but they weren't much better than mine.

Oh well, have just reassembled it with some of my parts and some of his. They seem to be fitting ok.

He said make sure I don't tighten the rail bolts too tight. The injectors should be able to be rotated by hand.

We will see. If you see a burning Camry on the 11 o'clock news you will know it didn't work.

and for sure about watching how tight you bolt down the rails...if oyu strip anything, it's over for that set.
