2000 Camry brakes

I have a 2000 Camry with 75,000 miles. I just had the front brakes replaced at a local brake shop (not the dealer). The brakes now squeak terribly. I"ve taken it back to the shop three different times to have them look it over. Brakes are still squeaking--worse than when I first took it in. Brake shop guys say there is nothing wrong and they don't know why it is squeaking (they have cleaned out the drums at least twice). Anyone else experience this? Suggestions?

camry brakes squeak. no changing it. ive seen gen II's like mine squeak and ive seen brand new ones roll out of the dealer lot squeaking.

my only suggestion is change to organic brake pads. its the high metal ones that squeak

A dealer once told my dad that it's a design flaw with Camrys in general. Some cars will squeak more than others, some not at all. This doesn't preclude something wrong with the job they did, but it's probably normal.

Something confuses me - you say "front brakes" but refer to "cleaned the drums". The front has disks, not drums - is the noise coming from the front or back?

My '00 LE has 72K miles and it does not squeal. It is not normal to have noisy front brakes on a Camry (rear drums are a different sotry). Use OEM pads and make sure you have the anti-squeal plates in place - did your repair shop forget to use them? Did they use anti-squeal compound/grease? If they did everything right, but used crappy pads, they can still make noise ...

I've changed my pads once so far (at 45K miles when I put in new rotors) and had no noises before or after that. The second set only squealed quietly for a week or so around 60K miles at very low speeds, but it went away and has not returned back for the past 10-12K miles...

My 2000 Camry with 83k miles doesnt squeak in drive, but they squeak in reverse. I was told that the front disks on the Camrys were desgined too thick, causing them to warp too easily... not that this affects squeaking or anything.

yeah, my brakes never squealed. i got them changed 2 weeks ago and now its embarassing. the fronts only were replaced. pads and rotors. they're squeak so loud it sucks. i have to stop very fast if there's people around so they won't notice.

i went with KVR carbon-metallic pads, they caused the squeaking i guess
