3rd Generation Lighting Options.

So I've been wanting to replace the dash illumination with something better. After going through the fourms I read that colour bulbs do not last as long as the original toyota ones. Can I just use LEDs instead.

I was thinking, I'll just pop out the old lights and stick the leds in there. If i bend the leads coming out from the leds i can make it fit the socket ( w/ correct resister). I want to know if thats safe? or is there another option to replace the dull dash illumination.

When I say dash I am talking about the gagues, as well as the climate control backlighting.

Thank you,

CamBOT

Just get some 194 LEDS and throw them in. Theres no need to mod anything. Plug and play.

Go through the forum some more there are quite a few topics on this as well as what bulbs people use and where they get em.

so the 5 led bulbs are recomended over the single led one?

Also, would the single LEd be brighter than the stock ones, because thats all i want.

Thanks.

Removing the cluster is difficult the first time, but after that it's very simple to find the screws when you know where they are.

I've always found that LED's aren't nearly as bright as regular bulbs. I would just get the reverse gauges for it. Much easier, WAY brighter.

Yes you can, you just yank those suckers out of the gauge cluster, they look kind of like coozies. You want the 5 led so that the light is dispersed like a incandescent bulb instead of just pointing in one direction thereby inadequately lighting your dash up. (as teh single would do)

if you dont like white or silver faces, they make reverse glow with BLACK faces for the camry

IMO, better than putting in LED's ... i plan on getting those whenever i feel brave enough to take the dash apart [aka, whenever i have $60 and Adam makes me a DIY]
