Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
so im getting my car smogged and my mechanic would not let me smog my car with my sri even though it has a carb legal sticker (hes an old friend and will pass me no matter what =]) so he made me put my stock air filter and cabin back on with the resonator and honestly it made a huge difference.
My car is so slow but when i put the sri on i didnt feel a difference. i dont get that initial thimp anymore and it feels sooooo slow. i know its more than likely psychological but im dying without my sri and putting it back on as soon as my smog test is done lol.
btw my ex drove my car and got hit on my drivers side so now i have a "racing stripe" as my friends say lol. more mods coming though =]
intake tubes/filters on both 4 and 6-cyl Camrys really don't make extra power. They might shift the power band a little bit, or maybe pick up 1-2hp at the very top of the RPM range, but that's it.
It's all in your head (that's the butt-dyno talking)
That said, I've always loved having an intake on my 5SFE-powered cars (and soon to be 1MZFE).. Just makes a pleasant sound.
ur thinkin about it to much. if any power was gained by the sir its somewhere to the right of the decimal point through most, if not all, of the rpm range.
Ok, I disagree, maybe there isn't any more HP but it definitely has better pickup due to it not being choked, if you diasagree please feel free to slide into a ditch.
"pick up" is a direct corrilation of hp. what ur feelin is improved throttle response mostly and yeah some minor hp gain, but only a little bit and in a short span of the rpm range. but i will agree it "feels" a little faster. but theres a differance between what u precieve and simple physics. honestly it all comes down to lack of hard dyno evidence to really prove either way.
My buddy dyno'd his GSR Civic with a SRI and a CAI and the CAI made 6 whp more than the SRI.
Now, I know we do have Camry's and not GSR's, but still. I made a CAI extension on my V6 and it definately feels better low end and smooths out the powerband.
what did u make the extension out of? and do u have any pics?
