4th Generation Gear Lever

i have a 99 V6 Auto with 115 K. Why does the gear lever feel tight sometimes, after the car is started and shifted to Reverse or Drive from the parking? Is there anything that can be done. I new cars I have noticed it is much smoother. I also had a flush done around 3 K miles ago

that just sounds like a stiff lever. check the linkage to see if its binding anywhere.

try moving the shifter through the gears when the car is in the on position but not running. if it moves freely then it may be an actual tranny problem.

Do you use your parking brake or park on hills? If the car rolls after you put it in park, it will make it a bit harder to take it out of P.

Yeah! I was parking in hills without the Parking Brake. Now I have started using it. It seems to have made a little difference. The gear othersise shifts pretty smooth apart from the starting shift. Do I have to do any major Tranny work or just keep going?
