help with corner and turn signal lights, not working.

i bought a 194 socket with the two wires attached
and plugged the wires into the bulb socket and it worked fine. Right. but the wires were not sturdy, just pushed into the socket. So i cut the socket off and joined the wires appropriately. Then it stopped working. so i figured it needed the original socket that i cut off, so i hooked it back up and it didnt work like before. same thing with my turn signal.
I dont think i blew a fuse i checked them. isnt this weird? Is it the flashers? how would i know if its bad? just gotta buy a new one and try it? HELP!!!! Thanks in advance guys.

but it doesnt work. i joined the wires and it still didnt work. bulb looks fine, but i'll check if the bulb blew.

how do you know if a flasher needs replacing? is it possible that a short could mess that up? i was messing with one park(corner) light and the other one stopped working too even though i didnt touch that one. cant be the socket, cuz the corner socket and the turn signal socket will not work now.

ok so let me get this straight, u put the wires that were attached to the new bulb socket into the old socket and it worked. then to rig it properly u cut off the old socket and spliced in the new one. right so far? after this there was no power to the new socket after being attached or the old one after u tried taht again. even with a new socket ur still not gettin power. and most of the other lights aren't working either.

since other lights are not working then yeh it sounds like a problem with either a fuse or a short. ive just looked through wiring diagrams in both haynes and the online repair manual and neither illustrated trouble shooting. haynes actually had a little more info then the only line one. since this sounds, if i understand right, like a fuse problem then i would first make sure uve found all fuse boxes(dont forget about the ones behind the coin tray and the passenger side kick pannel) and inspect them.

next u might want to double check the connection u made with the wires and be sure u didnt hook them up backwards. on some cars(maby not this one) the parking lights are hooked up in series, like christmas tree lights. if one goes out they all do.

i would also inspect the wires for a short somewhere, a short will only blow a fuse so if there is a short ull find a blown fuse first. there is a chance that the way u hooked it up when u put the wires in the old socket itself caused the short due possibly to heat or a small arch made when removing the wires. since bulbs cause a certain ammount of resistance on a circut, any spike in that will cause a fuse to blow..

to me, it sounds like fuse troubles caused by a short but im no electrical engeneer so i could be wrong.

all that you said is correct. messing with one park light caused the other to stop working. and one turn signal doesnt work. i'll check fuses.

i could never figure out how to check the fuses behind teh coin tray. when i take out the coin tray i see nothing. am i supposed to remove the plastic console between the two seats? i didnt check the passenger kick panel either, i will.

thanks man i'm uh try it. you saw my other problems? my main window switch doesnt work: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t200548.html

4th Generation

if the hazards still work then u probably blew a simple 7.5 amp fuse like i did awhile ago..its behind the ash tray on the drivers side....if ur hazards dont work then i would replace the flasher down by the kick panel
