3rd Generation Brake light/Shifter interlock problem

Im going on a long distance trip with my 95 camry xle v6.

Once in a blue moon, actually ive only had it twice in like the past year, and it went away, i get this problem that doesnt activate the shifter interlock, allowing me to get out of gear, even if i push the brake pedal. the first time this happened, the taillight warning light wasnt on, but the 2nd time, it was on, and i had no brake lights nor could get it out of gear (without using the bypass button). I still had the regular tail lights when i turned on my headlights, just not stop lights when i pressed the brake pedal.

My question is this, are the two even related? is there another switch on the brake pedal (like other cars) that seperately runs the shift interlock? or do the stop lamps and shift interlock both work off the brake pedal switch. and if so, is that the only place they come together? cuz if so, then my problem should only be the brake switch getting stuck no?

yea it drives fine, just the shift interlock wont activate. the 2nd time tho, it still drove fine, but along with the shift interlock not working, the stop lights didnt work. does the brake pedal switch run both?

im not sure but i believe theres something wrong with your electrical system...dont take my word on this becasue my 99 Camry was on it last legs before getting fixed, but my alternator fuse was blown and even pressing the brake pedal i couldn't pass through the gears w/o pressign the bypass button

well yea, cuz if ur alternator fuse is blown, ur not getting power to the rest of ur car. its just routed that way. assumming ur talking about that big 60 amp bladded fuse thats like screwed into the fuseblock by its terminals right?
