I don't even use the shims on my cars. By the time the first brake job is needed, the shims are usually too rusted to reuse. I just use a good spray disc brake quiet on the backs of the new pads and give the stuff about 10 minutes to set up before installing the pads. I have never had a squeaking problem with this method. If you used the disc brake quiet properly and are still experiencing a squeak, it could be in the pad material. If you are getting a squeak when the breaks are not applied but gos away when yopu apply the brakes, then the spray should have helped the situation. If you are getting the squeak when the brakes are applied, then the problem is with the pads themselves. As suggested above, take it back to whoever did the brake job.
