3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 1997 Camry XLE with V6 3.0 liter engine. I have few questions regarding my car.
1. Is the engine of my car an interference engine or a non-interference engine?
2. My car has around 82000 miles on it? When should I change the timing belt of my car? I am in San Ramon, California and use my car for local commuting.
Thanks.
As far as I remember its non-interference... anyone wanna clarify.
Timing belt would be fine to change, but i dont think its needed. I think recommended interval is 100,000 miles. Cerpentine belt however is a 60,000 mile recommended change... may wanna look into that. But if its not cracked or damaged looking you should be fine not changing it.

Toyota recommends replacing the tbelt every 60k for pre-99 vehicles, and every 90k for 99 and up. It should only take a few hours to do this service including cam/crank seals and water pump/tstat. There's no serpentine belt on your vehicle, there's individual drive belts for alt a/c, and p.s.

Sure if that's what you wanna call it. Just don't expect everyone to call it the incorrect way. So, everyone reading, there's 2 serpentine belts on the 97 camry.
