It looks like I may be the second victim of a puddle in the last few days. I'm praying that's all that's wrong. Tonight it was raining pretty hard and I was going doing this side street. I couldn't see much and I ended up going into this huge puddle. It was pretty deep (especially for a Camry) but it didn't kill my engine or anything. When I gave it WOT it would act a little funny and didn't seem to want to shift unless I let off. No big deal, atleast, not compared to a car not running. I drove the car home, chilled here for a few minutes, left again, no problem. A few hours later I go outside, get in the car to leave and it cranks just fine. I put it in drive, idles no problem, I give it a little gas, boom, it dies. It repeats this a few times and I ended up just giving up on it and getting a ride home. Points of interest: it shifts into drive and reverse and will idle both directions no problem. Whenever it dies it cuts all electrical power and if you let off quick enough it kinda starts it back off. Anyways, anything you guys can tell me will help... thanks...
Ok, so this morning I checked all of my vacuum lines, made sure the maf was plugged in good ect. Did the same thing as last night. It will let me rev it up as much as I'd like in park and neutral, but as soon as I put it in gear and press the accelerator it dies. When I get off work today I'm going to check a spark plug. Any words of advice?
Maybe its a wiring problem... Did you check the SMT settings make sure nothing is wrong there?
Maybe its the A/F I know when my car was runing rich it would idle fine but when i switched into drive it would bog out and die.

The way the SMT is hooked up right now it's only reading signals and not changing anything so that shouldn't affect anything. Couldn't it run rich b/c of the spark plugs?
Try punching the brake really hard... I dunno if you're having the same problem as I did verbatim... but, if you slam the brake down real hard, it might start running okay. The other thing I did was add some belt dressing to the belts...

Sparkplugs wont make it run rich. At least I don't think so. Cars are weird.

If that's the case I think I'm going to cry. Before anyone blames the turbo, I haven't added more than 20hp or so with the way it's tuned right now...
It does sound like the tranny... I was just trying to remember what mine was doing before it died...
Basically I was able to drive a little but the car would slip like crazy. Later on I would switch to drive and the car would sputter and die or it would let me drive a little and just stall out on me.
Check your plugs see if they are blacked out. you may be running rich.
Could be TPS
And check your MAF

I really don't think it's the tranny. When I press down on the accelerator it seems to die very smoothly, it's not really rough and it doesn't clunk or anything. Idk...
The a/f seems to be normal. I seafoamed it. It was fun, but unfortunately it didn't help my problem. I spent a good twenty minutes looking for my distributor cap, and then I realized... I don't have one. I can't find anything to point towards what's wrong but I'm still hoping it's a vacuum issue. Reverse seems to work better than drive... although I didn't have enough room to back up to know if it's full functional. If it is... I think i'm f'd.
Always look at the bright side if the tranny is fucked it's a good time to swap out it out for a 5-speed or low mileage auto tranny or even better a built auto lol.
Like the saying goes hope for the best and expect the worst!!!
