Got a couple questions

My friend has a '94 LE I4 4-door with 168K... couple minor things I want to help him with tomorrow but I need a little advice before I go in for a closer look.

1) the sidemarker bulb in the bumper (pass. side, the amber one) is out. Got a new bulb, my buddy says it's an intermittent problem- could well be, I tapped on the housing and it came back to life. My guess is dirt/ some type of contamination in the bulb socket or an improperly installed bulb. Any other ideas?

2) He can't flick the turn stalk forward into the high beams on position- he has to pull it back (to flash) then shove it forward. My dad and I agree it's probably gummed up, I have electronic cleaner for it... I went out and tried to figure out how the steering column shroud is removed on my brother's '94 and it looks like the 5 screws along the bottom. Is that right? (want to at least get out of the way for easier access)

It all seems straightforward anyway... any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

EDIT Searched and disxovered that it is, in fact, those 5 bolts holding the column cover on. Still want to know about the sidemarker bulb!
