3rd Generation V6 Full Tank = 500KMS

Hi guys,

For a full tank how many kms before the V6 become empty???
Don't know how many kms am i loosing on my Camry (i think there is a leakage somewhere in my intake manifold).
Speaking of it are they hard to replace (gasket), i got the V6 and when looking at it, it give me the headache...especially when you have to remove to get the spark plugs!!!

how many litres are you putting in when you fill up? sounds about right to me.

you will not find any fuel leaks from the manifold gasket. a fuel leak is present when there is a strong smell of fuel in the engine bay and evidence of leaks (drips) from fuel hoses.

as for changing the inlet manifold gasket. it just looks difficult. you can do it in a couple of hours. i did mine over a couple of afternoons after work (i had another car i could drive). download the Lexus ES300 workshop manual from the general section. it contains instructions for working on the 3VZ-FE.

500 is about right....but it all depends on how you drive.

when I was auto, my light would come on at about 450 or so using summer gas (about 400 with winter gas), but here in Toronto, we cruise at about 140 or so on the highway

My Gen 3 can hold 70 litres (correct me if i am wrong guys) so by the time the warning light come on i still got aprrox 100 kms left...all up i can do approx 500kms for a full tank.

As for the inlet manifold gasket i was told by 2 mechanic both stated that could be the problems.
Firstly the car is really noisy (both driving and dead stop)...by that i mean it's like i just install a turbo on my car or upgrade my exhaust pipe to 4".

Secondly i feel the car is lacking lots of power

If it's noisy, it could be an exhaust leak. IIRC, the 3vz's downpipe (was it?) are prone to leaking over time.

If you hear a whistling or hissing noise though, that's likely an intake leak. I've honestly never heard of a leaking intake manifold. On the other hand, I've heard tons of leaking exhaust, and that sounds to me like what you've got.

the gen3 tanks should only be 60L actually...unless the aussie versions are different...

and an intake manifold leak would give you an idling problem for sure as well...it would be the same as a MASSIVE vacuum leak

I am sure i don't have any idling problems....once the engine is warm while stopping at the red light...the rpm @ 8000.

i guess you meant 800rpm. maybe record the noise and post it here so people can listen. it's hard to troubleshoot a noise over text.

Finally had a chance to take my car for a exhaust repair to have a look, and for small $$$ it's all fix now .
They just tighten up one of the part near the engine (sorry don't know what it's call as i was not able to stay there when they repair my car).
Car is quite now BUT still lack power...any recommendation???
I have change engine old, spark plus, filter, air filter.
