3rd Generation Changing the Struts

How hard is it to change the rear struts on a 1992 camry 4cyl. I can just get it done at the local shop, BBBUT i want to do it. Will i need any special tools? I've got 2, 2 tonne jacks, Jack stands etc.

Have any of you done it?

Thank you.

You will need a spring compressor to take the strut apart. Download the service manual at the link below.

id get a torque wrench too,

its not that hard, took me about 4 hours for all of them the first time. you may also wanna jack it up to see if you need to replace any other parts while you in there. also, take your back seat out while your waiting around.

Really easy dude, takes an hour or two tops. Many of us have done it. I'd say do the front too, you don't want mismatched stuff.

When I did my springs and intended to do the struts, although I got screwed by the fact that the previous owner put on some crappy autozone or something struts on the car which were sealed but appeared to be serviceable struts (the downside of having a '93... not knowing if it's '92 or '94 struts)...

I used an impact wrench for the job and it took me about one night to do it all by myself.

So i've read through the manual and I broke down and decided to get it changed at the shop. Is just that I don't have any help, so it will be just be on my sloping driveway. Althought the shop owner is a friend and I'm going to watch him do it, he lets me do my own work at his shop.

Anyway, I wanted to put in Monroe Struts. NOT the sensa tracs but the regular ones. Is there any others you'd recommend?

Thanks.

I put on KYB GR-2 struts and I love them. I can't blow them no matter what I do and I only paid $240 for all 4 online (I forget what website, it was 1.5 years ago).

Me and a few guys from TN got together to change out the springs on my car, it didnt seem all that hard, just make sure you have a spring compressor and a torque wrench. Took us probably 3-4 hours.
