The transmssion drain plug is an inverted hex. It's not like a standard hex socket.

This is for a 99 Toyota Camry LE. It's an Inverted hex.

Do yourself a big favor and pick up a few of the cheap aluminum drain plug gaskets at the dealer. Install a fresh one when you close it up. Torque to 36 lbs/ft.

I'm not sure what this has to do with my question?

Are you referring to an Allen wrench or socket? Any place that sells tools.

It's a 10mm hex or allen key. Get the kind that fits on a 3/8" or 1/2" drive ratchet. Those L shaped keys won't have enough leverage for you to take it off.

in actuality it would be best if you dropped the pan and replaced the filter/strainer, and check your magnets while in there.

Any good tool house should have them, maybe even Sears, autoparts stores.

I just used the allen wrench and hammered it a bit. Works well.

Shit, that will work. So this is a 10mm allen wrench.

I'll just put a hammer on it to open. The reason why I want to open it is because I changed the transmssion fluid and filter and the fluid darkened a bit so I want to drain and refill with new fluid again. Hopefully it will lighten the fluid a bit.

You could use a piece of pipe to increase leverage, more tool friendly than a hammer.

well if your transmission fluid got dark after you changed it its due to the torque converter, theres a bunch of fluid in there...so its going to mix with the new fluid and the fluid is going to get darker
