Operating temp of AT transmission

Finally installed my trans temp gauge and so far ive seen it go up to about 200-208 deg F and stay there.

What should it read? thx

Can say for this car, but this operating temp is common in autos. Prolonged temps over 250F lead to seal and other trans problems. The data states for every 20F above 175F, fluid life is cut by 50%. At 208F the fluid should be changed about every 38K miles or even better 30K.

Adding an additional cooler will lower the fluid temp.

The temp is fine, just change the fluid every 30K to maximize trans life.

thinking about getting a B&M trans cooler now =) since i will be driving between 300 mile cities alot soon

sounds about right actually

my tranny used to max out at about 215F or so even with my massive tranny cooler- both when I was NA and after I was boosted.

but for people like us, it's not a problem even at that temp since we tend to change our fluids quite often

will an engine oil cooler do much or can the radiator handle that part by cooling the engine? on a stock engine atleast

on a stock engine the radiator can handle it .... tranny cooler is worthwhile if you think you have problems <but for stock u shouldnt be having any>
