3rd Generation Engine Seal for Rear Main Seal leak

I have a rear main seal leak and I wanted to get advice on what sealer to use, I have heard that there is ome success using the condition-sealer where the seals are reconditioned and you will see the leak lessen or disappear.....Thanks in advance.

Seal conditioner is actually seal "sweller". It softens the rubber and makes it swell. It's a short term fix.

So do you recommend this? I still do not know if I will drop that amount of money for a rear main seal. Also, I do not know anybody who I can trust to do this job the right way.

My point was that it's not a permanent fix. You're going to be replacing the seal eventually if you keep the car.

Are rear main seals common on the newer camrys?????? My wife's old 91 Camry (3sfe engine) had a rear main seal leak. I was told it was common for those engines. Is it common for the 99 Camry

I don't think that the rear main seal is a common problem for any of our cars...

But it is a maintenance-type seal for any high mileage engine- i.e. 91 camry

and depending on how bad the leak is...I'd live with it unless you know somebody or know how to pull the engine/tranny ourself

^ agreed, either live with the slow leak and top it off every now and then, or plan on spending the money to pull the transmission and replace it. Cheapest I have had it done for was $350 by a transmission shop. Be sure to look around if you think the price is too high for the labor.

You can pull it yourself if you have a cherry picker. It's not that hard. If you don't have a cherry picker you can take it out from the bottom. Just make sure you have jack stands holding up the subframe.
