Broken AIR intake

Hi guys,

Theres a leak in my air intake system. The intkae hose has cracked and making vaccum noises. I was looking for a replacement hose on ebay and its like $45 dollars. While a 'cone racing' filter is about the same price. I've been driving the car with the hose off and I like the sound the car makes, so I'll like to install the cone filter instead.

The cone filter only comes with a short hose and the filter. My question is what is the box that is attached near the air box. As shown on the photo below. What is that? and If i were to replace with a cone filter what do i do with that?

Thanks!

intake resonator - its useless, i removed mine

dont get just a cone filter with the stock tubing, get a SRI setup .... or get a replacement hose from a junkyard

but yeah, you can get a decent Short-Ram Intake for like $50 and a higher-quality one for about $100 [mine was like $118 shipped]

the cheapest one. no really, go for the simple single tube with a reusable filter design. no sense on spending money on a fancy one when u heave neither a show car or a hi performance car.

You are right. I dont race with my car or even rev it to red line. I try to keep it under 3 000 rpm, unless I 'have' to rev it. I just want to replace the broken hose. I'm 22 I want to keep the car until i'm at least 30!

The low slung CAI would not be good for me as I have to drive through 3 feet of snow every winter. Just need something to go to school, work then home

Hey guys, could I buy just this filter.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TOYOT...em200130195259

And then get a length of 3inch straight tubing from the local home depot? Its like 30 dollars extra for the aluminum piping.

Thanks

I get the car undercoated before every winter. I'm fixing the surface rust now (very minimal). This car is from America, Originally from AZ. Someone brought it over to Canada then I got hold of it. So it never saw salt or snow for the first 10 years.
