3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
As some of you were aware, I put in about $2000 into the Camry. I wanted to know how well my suspension, tires, rebuilt engine would handle some serious speeds. Driving by the Salton Sea, past Palm Springs, I cruised her upto 120, but she could not get past this due to the REV LIMITER. There was more play in her but just stayed put. My question is, if there is a rev limiter, is there a way to disable it without problems. As far as the handeling, it did great, it was better than my 2006 Charger R/T, which I hit 127 before rev limiter kicked in. All I have to say that it was very smooth and accelerated strong all the way through.
By the way, my testing was always done on a flat 4 lane highway with no traffic both ways.

So is smoking weed, being publicly intoxicated and swearing and or making obscene gestures with your hands and mouth while said inebriation is in effect, taking things with the intent of returning them when you find them boring, voicing your opinion... etc.: lol:: lol:

Get your terminology str8, it wasnt the rev limitor, it was the governor that kept you from going more than 120.

I don't claim to be an expert but apparently there's a pin on the ECU for Over Speed Fuel Cutout which I think is the problem. I've been told if you disconnect it you get a check engine light but can drive faster. The way around it is to have the ECU reprogrammed. Been told this often runs about $300. I just don't have the need often enough to drive that fast any more to make it worth the money.
WTF do you want to go over 120mph for in your Camry? The V6 can barely accelerate at those speeds. Unless you spent that $2,000 on a turbo setup, I wouldnt worry about it.
The invironment that this was done was in a safe location. The legalities, would be on me and the officer that would have pulled me over. I certainly do not condone this action in a matter where it would jeapordize anyone besides myself. It was a 20 second run at most. No reason to pay for track fees, just to get a feel.
