3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Dammit Dammit Dammit White Gen3 Curse Strikes Again!!!!!
Was coming home last night... car in front of me went to turn off, she signaled and all and I backed off to give her room and the kid in the Acura TL behind me wasn't paying attention. His left front hit my brother's car's right rear.
Offset rear-end collision.
The frame damage will total it out, it's 13 years old and though the exterior damage doesn't LOOK liek much neither passenger door opens and the frame rail underneath is screwed, the trunk floor warped, and the right rear quarter panel (part of the car's structure, much like your femur is part of your skeleton) is fucked to shit. Neither passenger door opens, the trunk is stuck closed, and ironically the failure-prone power antenna still works! That's Toyota integrity for you- it saved our lives, we could still drive it home, and it still gave us tunes! Of course it was 100% the other kid's fault, that doesn't change the fact that I'm hurting terribly for my brother as well as having a slightly sore neck. He didn't deserve this. He worked a year and a half to save for this car and it was taken from him in the blink of an eye. You know me and cars, to me it's like losing a child.
The whatif's care tearing me to bits- What if I took a different exit off teh highway? What if I ran that yellow on 211, buying me the ~30-45 seconds I needed to have never seen the twerp? What if I took my car? (My brother is practicing for his license, and around town I let him drive- not on the highway though) I never lost my love for gen3's and his was a honey of a sweet ride. The pics will show that.
Last two pics are with my Marquis... "Brothers in Arms"
RIP Tony's Camry. My heart feels like it was ripped out of my chest (to say nothing of my neck)... he's a good kid and hard worker- this was his first car and it was ripped from him by an idiot. Pay attention out there guys...

He hit it off-center or the results might have been different...
The car was mint, I loved the custom leather seats... ran like a top- the automatic 5SFE, this was the first I drove, isn't that bad once you get it on the converter and over 2000 RPM.
A young life over before it started

Bummer man sorry to hear. I got fucked by a hit and run this summer on the side of my car when it was parked in from of a grocery store...all because someone ate my lunch at work. Talk about a bad day...
The emblems, and the leather itself, were custom. That's honestly all I know about it... The leather is of a much better grade than OEM Toyota. From what I understand cloth--leather conversions were quite common on Gen3's as well as the gold package that this car came with and the ROH rims were dealer add-ons.

what happens when you get into an accident. In ontario we have 48 hours to report it to the collision centre. We have to reported before the insurance will look at it. Is that the same in NY.
That really sucks, your car looks so clean! It actually made me appreciate how a clean gray interior looks on the Gen3!
@CamBOT, I dont know about NY, but here in NH you report the incident to the insurance company first, then they have it appraised, then they give you the option of where you want it brought to to get fixed. My Gen6 was hit and the collision center didnt know for almost a month.
In NY the cops fill the report out, I'll get that in 5-6 days, we went and reported it to our agency who basically then goes after the other person's agency. Speed is everything, before stories change and wwhatnot you've got to jump on this stuff. Actually had to give a recorded deposition to the other person's insurance explaning what happened though it's crystal-clear regardless...
Dad's taking the car tomorrow to the dealership and we'll be waiting for the adjuster at that point.
More as it developes, right now I'm tired as hell tthe adrenaline has finally worn off and I'm going to bed.
Thanks TN for your support- my brother and I truly appreciate it.
