MAF Question

I know this isnt specific to a gen3 or 4 camry, but that is my gen so i figured id post here :P

With the help of my friend, I recently installed a new intake system and filter in my 2000 4 cyl camry. When we went to put the sensor inside the new intake, it would not fit (the o ring wouldnt really fit into the pipe without forcing it and the sensor wouldnt fit at all). I did this about a week or two ago and the car runs fine etc... Now the sensor is zip tied to the outside of the new intake (not inside) and the spot where you put the sensor in the tube is capped (the intake sys came with a cap, why, I dont know). I was wondering if A) the MAF is 100% nessisary (and if so, why does my CEL not come on since it isnt sensing my air) and B) will my mpg and engine performance suffer greatly from this...

Also, I was told that resetting my ECU (or whatever it is -- the computer for your car) is a good idea after installing anything new under the hood. I looked in my manual and could not find out how to do this. Please advise (sorry I'm not as gifted with cars as you all are )

Sorry if I sound noob :/

Thats not the MAF sensor your looking at, its the IAT (intake air temp) sensor. 4cyl are run off a MAP sensor which is located on the firewall, V6's have a MAF. So you can leave the IAT out of the intake and not get a CEL.

if ur not tripping any codes it isnt necissary to reset the ecu but all u have to do is disconnect the battery for a while and that will do the trick.

welcome to TN
