3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
hey,
I was just wondering what your opinions are on swapping a manual in a 3rd gen camry. Also do you know if there are any valve bodies made that I could use on my tranny?
The manual would be better (for most), but it comes down to spending the time and money on doing such a swap on a fairly old car. If the car is stock, you would probably be better off selling it and buying a manual instead.
yeah yeah, I know a manual is better for a lot of pretty obvious reasons but more of what I was asking, and I sort of refrased in another thread was whether a modified valve body with a quick shifter would be a better option.
modifying an automatic tranny is never a better option in the case of the camry(cept maby in the case of tony). typically u only see built autos in high hp & tq drag cars because their consistant and the larger grears are better when matched with the high power numbers, but im talking 600+.
if you have 1,200 laying around and you've got some time then do it

yeah the 4cyl really does. as far as the v6 goes, at least they have the "pwr" button. im more surprised they got rid of that the getting rid of the manual option on later models .
