3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi, in my never ending quest to get this car back in semi-used condition . I have found another small thing i want to repair . Its the same 1995 camry xle. now the issue is for the first time since buying the car, (maybe 5-6 weeks ago , give or take a week) i attempted to plug in a cell phone charger, now i already knew that the lil part that actually heats the cigarette wasnt there, but i go and push in the car charger , and it just kept going lol.
so apparently for some reason , whatever that part is called, is gone, has anybody ever replaced one of these? are they universal? i remember seeing some sort of cigarette lighter replacement years ago (maybe 5-6 years ago) in a auto parts store, but never paid much attention to it.
yeah its easy, i believe most or prolly all toyotas even today still use the same setup. so u should be able to pull one out of any toyota at the yard.
There are a few intricate parts if I remember. I had to disassemble one on a Previa, there was an locking metal inner PITA and and outer locking plastic PITA.
Yea their a bitch to take apart..I gave up trying, and bought the entire bezel with another lighter at the JY for my gen 3.5!...Couple of bucks!
please explain lol. you can remove the bezel portion and that keep everything connected so only a few connections are needed to be made ? and if so is it required to be soldered or how?
its not that bad, just use a flat head to pull off the bezel, then unplug the cables from the Lighter, and plug the replacement back in, i recently just bought the plastic that goes around the lighter on the inside (including the light) and it was like $16 from the dealer...im sure you could rip one out of a junked one....or you can always just hardwire your cell phone charger to you car like i did
Here's a pic of a Cig lighter bezel in the center of the pic...its ez to remove, pry it off from the bottom with a flat head screw driver, just snaps in. The only wire is to the lighter, unplug it from its connection and then back into the new one!

oh cool its like a plug for the cables, i dont have to get any butt connectors or solder or anthing like that? and i could buy the whole assembly including the cigarette lighter for like 20 bucks?

thanks for the pic and description of the wire, i think i can knock this out lol just have to find the part now lol
Take out the lighter.
Stick your thumb into the lighter and pull it out. The Trim should come out.
Carefully remove the trim piece.
Dissconnect the lightter.
Look behind the lighter there is a small nut.
Remove the nut.
Bend the tabs back and remove the small thin bronze washer (not the thick one). (this part is tricky can dont really remember how it looks but i had to pull something back...)
Reassemble Enjoy!
Oh yea to remove the lighter assy. from the trim piece you need to take it out from the front...
If you are confused take a picture behind the lighter and i can tell you what to do.
