3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Got into an accident today. I'm not sure how its gonna come out. First glance I need new battery, left headlight, bumper and whatever that's inside of it, radiator support, maybe new rad and left fender.
We are dropping like flies god damn it. The situation I was in sucked too, I was either going to get Tboned by a Mercedes on the driver door or risk losing control and running into another car. Not much of a choice for me IMO as getting Tboned seem like a much easier chance for me to get hurt so I accelerated and narrowly escaped the Merc and ran into a Corolla. So it was a trade getting hurt but not at fault, or not get hurt and be in a at fault crash.
Car still ran afterwards and I drove it to my mechanic. Radiator was ok, just out of place, but the headlight went through the battery. The car must have been mad because my mom suggested that we trade it in last night.
I dunno if I want it to be written off so I start new or get it fixed. I won't have a car if its written off, on the other hand I can actually save money for something better cause I won't have to pay for gas.
o man that really sucks...but if u do decide to part out or something ill take ur rims

Its fixable..airbags didn't blow. The wife had and accident in our previous 96 and it looked just like that. Estimate was like 1100 bucks, insurance covered it, but it was like 8 yrs ago.
Man, sorry for the bad day u had..gen 3/3.5's are dropping like flys..I pray I don't start one of these threads!!!

damn man. sorry to hear but glad ur ok. as long as u didnt bend the subframe then it shouldnt cost to much to repair. but then again. just a bumper and paint will cost about 25% of the cars value and dont trade it in. u wont get dick for it.
Its good that no one wa seriously hurt but you could fix that. Whats great about these kinds of threads is how after a few months, the cars are fixed and back on the road again. If you search you will see my "Camry Accident" threads and here I am today. Driving the car again and till the day either it, or I die.
Its not worth selling or trading it in anymore. Its worth more now just to keep it. Its so reliable and comfortable. If you sell it or trade it in you will get like 2500? Thats nothing. I'd rather keep it.

It's a moderately expensive fix... I'm still doing mine.
You're gonna probably want a new bumper, but word to the wise, aftermarket sucks.... I would just go with a polyurethane or fiberglass front body kit bumper. Underneath the bumper, you need the reinforcement brackets and the arms. New radiator support, hood lock, hood, turn signals, etc....
I'm still trying to replace parts on mine. It's not a matter of how much it is, because really all the parts are under 400 dollars... it's just a matter of having the time to do it, for me.
yeah dude, you saw my thread and my coupe. and guess what, it's being fixed. even with the blown airbags. so no worries.
i got lucky with buying used parts at sweet prices from local tn members but even so, i needed way more parts than you did. don't worry about it. if it's easier, repair by cash and not insurance. shit, mine still ran after my impact and your's looks a thousand times better.

im sorry about your car, at least everyone's alright. id suggest to fix it if it doesnt cost too much. your insurance should cover it. and besides, if the camry still has life in it, the cost of fixing it would be a lot less than buying another car. so u might as well just run the cam until the cost of repairs outweigh the worth. IMO
I'm glad you were ok. That car doesn't look as bad as the others i have seen on the forums. I swear everyday i visit here I see another wrecked Gen. 3 thread. It really sucks. Hope everything works out for you.

Thanks for the encouragement. Met with the insurance people today, insurance for BC Canada is government owned so everyone signs up with the same mother company ICBC. The agent I talked with asked me to outline the accident and she's 90% sure I won't be at fault because there is a witness and the other driver's statement basically says the samething we have. She said the only thing right now is we didn't get the plate of the silver Mercedes that caused all this, which means I'll have to pay the $300 deductible that starts everything off.
I felt so relieved when she told me that most likely I would not be liable for it. Right now my only concern is whether the car is gonna be fixed or deemed a totalled. I don't have any say in what decision they make unlike private insurance companies. If they total it, I wonder if they will let me have the rims back. IS rims are fairly hard to come by....
If they decide that the car will be repaired, I will most likely get all new parts. No more foggy headlights.
If its totalled.... I wonder how much more will insurance be for a new Gen6 SE V6......
