Is the 5SFE engine a Interference or non-Interference engine - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums

Meaning if the timing belt ever broke with the engine "free wheel" and not damage the valves. I remember a Toyota Mechanic told me that the 91 (3sFE engine) free wheeled when the timing belt broke. I'm not sure if this is the same about the 5sfe.

The 5SFE is a non-interference engine. No harm will come to the engine if the belt breaks.

No, actually I bought it from a 92 yo man. It's a 99 Camry. I think that is 4th gen. The engine and trans are beautiful.
