Diagnosing slight rough idle

have a 99 Camry with 30K on the engine. When the engine is running and at idle at a stop light or in park there is a slight rough idle. I've checked vacuum lines and such. The RPM needle on the tach vibrates a bit a 700RPMs and I can feel a slight vibration in the brake pedal. When I pop the hood I can see the engine is a little jumpy. I replaced all spark plugs and did notice the overhaul engine vibration was lower but the rough idling problem didn't go away. I don't know where to start. I also don't just want to replace one component after another till it goes away.

What's the procedure for this. I know you just shoot the cleaner in the throttle body while the engine is running. Is there anything special about the Camry???

wtf? shoot it in while the engine is running?

Im no mechanic but i would not try that on my car, the TB comes off the Intake Manifold pretty easily so u can clean both sides, u can use a TB Cleaner or Seafoam(ive never used that)

If you look at most directions for TBC it always says it wants to you run the engine while spryaing it down the trottle body. The advantage of this is that it flows down the intake and cleans that as well as goes into the injectors and burns the carbon. If you just clean the trottle body I don't think it won't do much.

Here's a link to cleaning the throttle body. It's for a V6, but it should be similiar. Notice they clean it on the car with the engine off. There are some other good threads on this forum you can search for:

I did this. I used both a toothbrush and did it while running the engine and without. I emptied the entire can. Didn't fix the rough idle. I don't know where else to look. Being the fact that it's a 99 with only 30,500K I'm not sure maybe the fuel filter????

Looks like I fixed it. I bought a new fuel filter and replaced it today. For some reason a rough idle is gone after changing that filter. I remember when removing the old filter I turned it over to remove any gas that was at the "in flow" end and the gas came out black. Almost like the filter was dirty.

The fuel filter is quite difficult to change. It's mounted right next to the air box and is clamped. There is a fuel hose on the bottom and top. I wish it was side mounted. Toyota never seems to change their design because I remember my wife's 91 camry had the same exact filter for some reason.
