hey im just looking for an opinion.... i just bought 2 12" cold cathode tubes for the interior of my 92 v6, gonna mount them under the dash when i figure out how to connect them to the headlight 12v line...but anyways....i was wondering about changing the color of my overhead lights also, the one that comes on when the doors open, and the other ones that you can manually switch on/off. has anyone tried this? i dont even know how i would go about getting to the bulb in the first place. my thoughs were to maybe replace them with some colored LED's, is this possible? im sure the wiring is up there for it
You can get LED's that are designed in car-bulb harnesses. Why you would want to do all of this is beyond me, as I personally think you're literally just ricing the car out with a lot of tacky stuff.
superbrightleds.com is the site that sells 'em though, they make quality LED's and I can attest to the fact that their version of the dome light fits in the camry, as I just recently did mine in part of completing my LED conversion.
Going with a colored overhead light will most probably make your car look very cheesie and you'll get less actual light from it. Whatever makes yah happy though.
good point, just an idea. maybe some new white ones since the bulb is looking very yellowish anyways. the more i think about it, it would look pretty stupid eh? thanks tho

yeah, the white LED's look very good. that's what I did with my entire interior.
if you want, checkout my CD and you can see what it looks like when you convert all the lights over to white.
I think colors aren't bad for the gauge-cluster or other associated interior lights, but going with a colored dome light would just be pretty tacky, imo.
the LED they sell for our cars from superbrightleds is a 9 LED "bulb" which has a very narrow light pattern (as most LED's do) so when you look directly at the dome light, you'll see directly where the LED is in there, it won't be as diffused as a regular bulb.
However, it is a much clearer white color and in the car, the pattern isn't so bad, it's just when you're looking direclty at the light.
for the gauge cluster....i bought some replacement white bulbs for that at pepboys, but its still looking yellowish, do you know if thats the bulb or is it a colored/dirty film of some sort....hopefully its just the bulb cuz in that case id order some blue or white LEDs off that site =D

halogen bulbs, especially smaller sized bulbs generally come off looking very yellowish.
the place that this plagued me the most was in finding a good parking/corner light bulb. I initially used the polarg 18w bulbs, but they were so large that they eventually melted the lense.
I've since found that superbrightleds has released a higher powered LED that is very clear and very bright. I put them in a few days ago when I did the dome light. I like the look a lot.
For gauge cluster LED's, get the wide-angle ones though, as some of the lighting needs to have a pretty wide angle otherwise you'll come out with a very blotchy looking cluster (some parts not as well light as others).
