3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Quick question about exhaust component compatibility:
I may need to swap out my muffler and since I don't want to go aftermarket, I realize that I am left with the option of having to find a scrapped V6 camry. I was wondering if the 3vz camry used the same muffler as the 1mz. Does anyone know if they mount up the exact same way? I just want to know if i have more donor cars to look at. Also, since the es300 did come with the 3vz and 1mz, does anyone know if their mufflers will be a direct application?
All i need is just the muffler, no piping or anything. Thanks for your help!

Well, the V6 has twin tips and the 4cyl has single. I think you can put the V6 muffler on without any problems. If anything it might make your car even quieter?

The 3vz-fe mufflers are dual pass through, the MZ+ mufflers are twin chamber wi8th a flap on them that closes at low throttle.

gridlyne -> i already got a v6 so all the donor cars would have to be a v6. i was just wondering if 3vz anf 1mz mufflers are interchangeable.
toys -> so i'm guessing the 3vz mufflers and 1mz mufflers are not interchangeable then?

you can interchange all u want, no big deal. im just relaying that toyota went to that style on all their medium-large mufflers.

yeah toys, what was the general purpose of the switch in muffler design then?
btw, sorry about going off on you on that es300 thread...

that is some pretty detailed engineering on toyotas part. my guess would be sound but why go through all that trouble of adding a flap? does it help with back pressure?

Try to increase velocity at low rpm's until it needs to open up.
lol its the internet, its not personal.

so going from a 1mz muffler to a 3vz muffler would actually hurt my performance/back pressure or is it just a sound thing?
