Change to Synthetic engine oil?

I have a 1992 Camry (i4, 190,000km) purchased about 2 months ago, and on my second oil change since. The previous owner told me he used synthetic oil in the winter, and dino during spring and summer. I'm thinking about using synthetic oil year round, doing 10k km intervals (changing the filter after 5k), would it have any adverse affects? is it true if the car hasnt used synthetic oil (assuming the previous owner was lying) that it might spring up leaks?

typically u wanna pick one or the other. synthetic is perfered, i dont know why he would switch back and forth. try synthetic, if it leaks alot then u know u have to go back to regular.

Agree about either use synthectic all year or stick with dino. In winter synthectic is as important because it flows better at cold temps. 10K changes may work but you won't really know without oil analysis. My mileage and oil analysis (not on my Camry) showed I could go one year on synthetic with new filter and top-up every six months. However on my Camry I use dino. I can't see the cost benefit of using synthetic with the mileage and usage on it.

I've used synthetic oil between 85,000 to 91,000 miles in my car. It caused a leak in my car. I switched back to dino oil and that leak disappeared. If your car has high mileage, use dino.
