Motor mount question - 93 Camry I4

Ok, I knew the old motor mounts are bad, so I bought a set from Ebay. But when I went to remove the old ones, the bolt in the top of the front mount was so tight that I broke it off (which took a lot of force). And the rear mount -- the replacement didn't come with the stud that the original has, and I don't think the old stud is going to come out of the original.

Has anyone else had this experience? I'm sure I can get a bolt replacement at the dealership. I hope I can get the stud there also ?? Anybody know? It's Saturday so the dealer's parts dept is closed...

No responses so far... I'll try again -- I know it's probably not a big deal but has anyone else had this problem?

the dealer will have the parts but they dont call it the STEALERSHIP for nothing. Try AutoZone or Napa they have tons of parts, CarQuest is another good one. They will have to order the part but you will save some money.

You can get the bolts at a junkyard (or dealership, its up to you). As for the mounts, they should be available at any parts store. Make sure you ask for the 'hydraulic-filled' mounts. Those are what the car came with originally and attribute to the smoother idle/ride. They cost more than the standard mounts, though, so just be aware of that. If you're concerned about the price/availability, go the the individual store websites (autozone.com, advanceautoparts.com, oreillyautoparts.com, etc.) and price them there.

Thanks for the replies! I already have the mounts (hydraulic), just need the bolt and stud. I had not thought about trying to get Autozone to order them, I may give that a try if the dealer wants too much.

From the fun I had removing the front mount, when I looked at the rear mount I was pretty worried that I wouldn't be able to get it out without removing some major engine parts. That top bolt is in a bad location. But it was actually not that hard after I removed the passenger-side front wheel. Fortunately I had just the right box-end 17-mm wrench I needed and it wasn't that hard to get the nut off.

if you need further assistance you can ask us here at TN or you can buy a Haynes manual for your car (they do an entire breakdown & rebuild) it even comes with wiring diagrams of the entire car. For free tools you can go to an AutoZone and use htier tools there or do thier "Rent-A-Tool" thing. I have done both of these things in the pst and have had great successes with both.

Thanks; I've got the factor shop manuals for the car, but they don't say much about replacing the motor mounts with cheap ones bought through eBay. But you've got a point about Autozone's tool loan program; they may have something (what I don't know) that could help remove the stud from the old rear mount.
