3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a '95 Camry LE 5S-FE and want to change my rotors and can't decide between drilled or slotted. I have heard that slotted shave the brake pads too much, and that drilled will crack. Any advice? Thanks.
The slotting or cross drilling just eliminates gassing that would normally occur if you were to REALLY beat on your brakes. I would just go with cross drilled AND slotted at the same time. :P

From my experience, the slot one has fewer problem.
If you want to buy the drilled one, you have to make sure that it's made with high quality, something like strengthening process.
Because some factories they just use the normal discs and drill by themselves, and then directly sell without any strengthening treatment.
If you use this kind of disc, the disc will easily have concentric circles lines on surface or crack.
Just my opinion.
I've also heard that slotted acts like a razor and shaves your brakes faster than a drilled one would. Also, the drilled ones only crack through extreme braking so everyday driving shouldn't cause any cracks, unless you brake like crazy or sumthin. Also, drilled ones look cooler to me. I always wondered why porsche sticks with drilled ones if slotted brakes are better.
