Ok heres a good question that I didnt think of all this time when I wanted to the the 5SGTE. If im not mistaken the major differences betwenn the heads of a 5SFE & an 3SGTE is the physical bolt up, cams, valves and a few other things. Its become very frustrating to find the head for a 3SGTE without buying the entire engine and its killing me. Im wondering if I can use the aluminum head from my 5SFE and have it designed internally like a 3SGTE blueprint, there are a few compaines out there that doo this and from the prices that I have seen simply for a 3sgte its a little less not to mention with the 3SGTE head id have to custom fabricate my engine anyway. So my question to you is would it be better to custom build a head from aluminum ad have the internals match a 3SGTE besides the parts that conflict and have it bolt right up to a 5SFE Block??? If so then we may have a new option for those who have excessive mileage anyway and want to overhaul the engine (like me @ 140K miles). What do you guys think???
just post on some mr2 forums that you need a 3sgte head without turbo. You'll find one, and for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper then anything than involves custom fabrication. Its expensive just to have a custom turbo manifold made.

I have header from members at TN as well as FM2 (Forza Motorsport 2) that installing the head from a 3SGTE to a 5SFE requires custom farication as well, it was something about the water holes or bolts not matching up. If it is an easy and cheap install ill definately go for it.
I believe there are some odd tricks you have to pull off, Wraith has a thread here on how to build a 5s-gte. Something about the timing system must be changed.
You are probably better off starting with a 3s-gte swap then using the 5s-fe crank and having the 3s-gte internals machined to fit on it to stroke the 3s-gte to a 2.2'
Honestly the gains are not quite worth the extra expense, any particular reason you want a 2.2 liter 3s-gte?

A to make a statement and be as unique as possible of course, not to mention a little more literage and lower compression never hurt anyone when doing a turbo build.
Thanks for the site link, I just wonder at that price, how many miles are on that JDM Engine. Im alrady failingemissions with my 5SFE any way so screw it and out he door with emissions if I get a JDM. That was a really intriguing price, again though its the milegae that has me concerned.
The 5SFE only has one Cam Gear??? I never knew that, wow, you learn something new every day. IF you are right RichieRichJP and I am exempt Ill just get than damn 3SGTE and work iwht that instead. Is it true that the 5SFE Crankshaft is better than the 3SGTE Crankshaft or is that just speculation?
