I was driving home from college today when I noticed the faint smell of exhaust in my car. At first I thought it was the truck in front of me, but after 30 mintues of driving I still could smell it. So when I got home I jacked it up to check out the exhaust and this is what I find.
Anyway I am guessing this is the cause of my exhaust problem, so I am wondering if you guys know how expensive it is to replace the flex pipe.
buy a cheap bosal replacement or have a shop make you a new high performance one.

last winter, ran over ice, broke flex pipe, notice there are two flex pipes, one for front, one for back, called around the muffler shop, they want around $150 to cut and weld flex pipe, if replace both flex pipe, they charge like $280, i went to ebay and saw they sell v6 non-oem flex pipe around $140 and i bought, i figured i would install myself, so i used WD40 on the 6 bolts holding the flex pipe every day for a week, a week later, i don't have problem losing the bolts, no round or strip bolts, and when i put the non-oem flex pipe on, the car sound weired, more mourning noise and lost of power, after driving for 2 week, i bit the bullet and went to online toyota dealer, bought a geninue toyota flex pipe for $280 along with 3 gaskets. installed it, and car runs great again.
if you don't decide to keep your car long, cut and weld maybe a cheaper solution.

I have to agree. Go to an aftermarket muffler shop and have them cut out the old OEM flex pipe and weld on an aftermarket one. Price should be around $150.
Mine 92 V6 looks just like this. I'm going the Bosal route...

Thanks for the tips guys, I plan on keeping the car for a while so I will probably go the OEM route. Hopefully I will be able to replace it for a reasonable price.
I have to confirm this sometime this week, but 1sttoyotaparts.com has the 'front pipe' listed for the 93 v6 camry for $256.80. I would call them to make sure it's the y-pipe though first.

My '99 had this problem. Holes in the flex pipe. Just got it fixed today. $151.91 at a local (Wash DC) independent shop called Wonder Automotive. They cut out the old flex pipe and attached a new one. I had called a number of places and gotten estimates of $250 - 800 over the phone.
Granted, I've only driven 10 miles on the new repair, but it sounds perfect to me, and it looks solid.
When I walked in the door to the shop (which I spotted on the way to another shop), I asked if they could fix a flex pipe and the guy had one right behind the counter. He immediately said $150. It took about an hour. I don't know what the brand of the part is, but who cares. It's a piece of metal.
My '93 5sfe flex pipe cracked a couple of years ago. I was surprised how easy it was to just unbolt the old rusted one and to bolt in a new replacement. None of the nuts and bolts were rusted in place! and the car spent most of its life in New Jersey with salt on the roads in the winter....
I used a replacement part from a Toyota dealer, and IIRC it wasn't too expensive, maybe $200.
It's been perfect now for several years, and about 40,000 miles.
