I've heard a lot of debate regarding CAI's. Most people seem to like them, others are worried about getting water in their engine. I know I can make a CAI in no time at all, I'm just worried about getting water in my engine too.
if I were to make a cold air intake and have this piece on it, would that prevent the whole "water getting into the engine" issue? I'm only asking cos I don't think I've seen this question yet.
yeah that would help. or u could just not drive through puddles that are a foot deep . people rarely actually run across the "water in the engine" problem. most are smart enough not to drive through deep water. but that thing would definatly help in the event that u do.
quite frankly I can't remember ever seeing puddles in my area deep enough to submerge where the CAI would sit lol. I'm more worried about rain and stuff since I'm in Washington State and it rains ALOT. I suppose snow might be an issue as well at one point or another.
well rain and snow are not what that protects against. in the event u submerge ur intake the suction is diverted through that foam ring and wont suck any water in. moisture will get in there reguardless of whether or not u put that on.
well even ur stock intake systems brings in moisture. ive had a CAI, homemade with no water valve like that for a combined 4 years from both cars and ive never had a problem in rain or snow. i wouldnt let that stop ya.
Yea I saw some Camry about a year ago on the internet. I suppose you could find it by googling "Henry's Camry". Anyways he had pics of a CAI he made and I was like "wow that looks easy! I think the background in metal work would also help That guy did a clean job on his.
im parting my car if you got a 5sfe i got a full CAI i made...i would sell it to you cheap if you want it..i just have no use for it...it fits and have had it on for almost a month maybe...great sound and noticed a differance over my SRI..let me know i got pics of under the hood and in the fender where its mounted...

Nuchieboy whay do you want ot get rid or your Secret Weapon Intake, they are really good, Ive had mine for 1 year now and I love it, it was better than that ractive POS intake I had before. PLus I added a Ram Air adaption to it because of the way the filter is made, and I have yet ot heve "Water Lock".

I wouldn't worry about rain. Where the filter sits in a CAI setup, its well protected. The bumper would have to be submerged in water before the filter sucks up any water.

I have 3vz-fe, I appreciate the offer though. I enjoy making my own stuff so I think it'll be cool making a CAI.
for DIY.
You need a AFM adapter. Either buy one or make your own out of a piece of metal and pipe.
hey i like it but i dont exactly get how that ram air thing works...like there isnt and directions how to clamp it or anything...do u have any pics of urs or anything that could help me?

Thanks for the info and the compliment on wanting to do my own work. I'm curious about the AFM adapter. I looked for a few hours on google and couldn't find anything at all. I did however find MAF adapter stuff after a couple hours. Is that what you meant? I took a look at a MAF adapter online that would apparently fit on my Camry. they cost $50.00 each. I'll make my own for free lol it'll only take 30 - 45mins at the most to cut out the pipe, weld it on a metal plate and drill the holes out.
