4th Generation Missing ABS

I have a 2001 Camry CE which did have ABS. It was in a previous accident before the purchase. I know it has ABS because the wire for it is still sticking out and insurance company thinks it has it too. Can I install and new one and how hard is it?

i think its pretty difficult. It jumps into your cars computer which is to react when your in need to stop in an immediate spot. I'm not to sure myself but I believe thats what will be needed to be done.

I wouldnt think that the electrical part would be the hardest, but connecting the brake lines in and out of the ABS device will probably be the hardest part.

Lots of cars may seem like the come with ABS, but I dont think the Camry CE's came with it in '01. Heck even our '03 LE doesnt have ABS.

No, but the sticker says it comes with it and it was an option on the 01 CE's.

Look in the engine compartment on the passenger side. You should see a box with tubing similar to the one in the picture. If you don't then you don't have ABS. It was optional on the CE models.

Yeah my car doesn't have ABS but the light for it is still there, and I think I know the wire you are talking about. But i'm not sure how you would install it. Sounds like a tough thing to do.

Yeah, I know about the box and I know that it is NOT there. But I am pretty sure it is supposed to be.

Call Toyota corporate customer service at 1-800-331-4331 and be prepared to give them the VIN of your car. They should be able to tell you if your car left the factory with ABS.
