Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Before you jump on me here, let me explain my situation. THe car is not actually mine. It's my parents and they have no intention of selling it or anything, even to me, they just want to keep it for me and my bro to drive until we're both out of college. So, I can't really do anything big to it anytime soon anyway unless something drastic happens. Now, parking at my college is $405 for the year. My parents owe me $400 for my graduation present that I paid for so I could get it faster I talked to my mom, and she said that she would let me put the $405 I would spend on parking and this money into a savings account just to buy my own car. That's $800, and if I put the money I would be spending on gas in every month or at least a little bit, but the end of this year I should have enough to at least get a small loan to buy my own car. Part of me also figures this is a good way to get my parents out from under me a bit in a sneaky kind of way Now, I also have a feeling that my love for the camry may not be for the camry, but just because it's my first car and only car I've ever had, you know you tend to love your first car and love what you have (Or hate it, but I'm a glass half full kind of guy). I was thinking it would be good to own another car for a while at least to see if I love the camry as much without being biased by it being my only real driving experience and car. But I might end up buying a Camry COupe anyway so .
Oh, and I forgot to add, I just found out the car still smells like smoke from my Grandma, I don't smell it anymore, but my other grandma rode in it the otherday and was like, "You need to use some febreeze in here." and I realized that, no matter what I do, unless I replace the whole interior, that the smell is never going to be gone, and I don't want to spend alot of cash on a car with that much smoke damage (Although what you can see is small, I can tell by the plastics and such that are cracking that there's alot of hidden damage). I figure that if I want to start spending $$$ on a car, I should just buy my own and start fresh with a cleaner car that needs less little stuff like that so I can concentrate on the more important stuff.
haha same situation with me. where are you gonig? Im going to slo and parking permit is like the same price. my parents just dont want me to take it the first year but w/e and if i geta 3.75 avg i get a new used car next year wooo

My first camry(gen 3 '96) was a car I got for free witha siezed engine and it had a terrible tint and wreaked of smoke. My dad had the car ozoned at his toyota dealership(he was a service manager) and it was fine after that. I cant remember how much it cost me cause was about 5 years ago.... but it worked
and yall are getting screwed for yalls parking. I only pay 50 bucks and I get a parking pass permit at OSU. The cam is a great college car though. Low maintenance, good gas mileage. You can also charge your friends for a taxi service in it.

I'm looking for any oklahoma ppl with camrys on here. Let me know.
i beat all of you, parking is absolutely free at my college lol i just gotta fill out a little application, get a parking sticker and i can park there any time lol
back on topic it's probably better to take the cam cause at least it's paid for already and you know for sure it's reliable...if you get another car and you take out a loan you gotta pay that monthly, plus your school tuition (unless it's already paid off in full), your books, other living expenses, it's gonna put quite a strain on your parents, it might not smell or look good but then again it all comes down to just being able to get around
Well, acording to everyone I've talked to they don't even use their cars cause they live on campus and can get anywhere they want to go for free on the bus.

not at UMD. 160 a year baaah. when this car finally gives out on me ill likely go with another model or even another brand, somthing really impractical and with loads of potential for modding. have fun at school
