4th Generation DIY - rear seats removal & speakers

Yeah there is this site you can refer to: http://www.gearmonkey.org/sixthman/a...34.html#001934

and

Yeah there is the manual you can look at

But this is my own way of doing it and I want all the members to find this info on TN instead elsewhere

the rear seat itself is very easy to take down, just pop the 2 clips circled upward then slide the entire seat out (to the front of the car of course)

now follow the safety belts to the bottom and remove these 4 bolts (you can't miss)

something off topic, i found some trash under the seat (plastic clip, pen cap, air freshner, 9mm luger speer point, money, and some hook

now unlock the seat latch from the trunk then fold all seats down, remove bolts circled, 4 total, 2 each side (vise grip very helpful) Gently wiggle the back out

now with both the bottom and back seats removed, you can then take off the 2 side cushions by removing circled bolt, then slid them upward against the back (there is a clip on top)

now all back seats are removed (1 long bottom, 2 square backs, 2 side cushions)
you need to remove the c pillar by poping circled clips (beware the metal one on top, its the hardest to remove) be patient, don't break them !

go in the trunk and squeeze circled clips to replease them (they are for the center brake light so they are under them)

now pull the brake light out slowly and DISCONNECT THE WIRE FIRST, then remove it completely (notice circle 2 clips = 2 clips from above pic)

general back shot to give you an idea
now you need to remove the flat shelf covering the speakers
Like the arrows indicated, lift on the edge and pop the 2 clips right under the arrows

2 clips on the flat shelf you "pop"

now wiggle the shelf straight toward the front of the car, notice you can't remove it completely because of the safety belts, so just let it hang.

I dont think explain how to get to the rear 6x9 is worth any discussion, just remove the bolts and pop in your new set, make baffle if necessary

FOLLOWING IS WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE AND DO NO LOSE THEM !!!

left to right: center brake light, center & passenger safety belt holder, 4 back seat bolt, 2 side cushion bolts, 4 safety belt bolt

all takes about 30 minutes

any feedback is welcome

Just for reference, it is not necessary to remove the seat backs or the seat bottom cushion to remove the cover for the shelf to get to the 6x9s. You need to remove the two side pieces, one bolt at the bottom each side.

For 2000 and 2001 models, there are 3 child safety seat anchors that you must remove before you can take that shelf cover off. Pull the plastic covers off to reveal the bolts.

Good thing I found this thread, I was about to set the car on fire after trying to follow the haynes manual and failing miserably. I'll give it another go tomorrow.

Just out of curiosity, why did you remove the rear seats?

Nice writeup, but you really need to shrink those pictures down to about 25% of their current size.
