3rd Generation Question on Depo for Gen 3.5

I'm looking at Depo upgrade options on my 95 XLE. Started looking at just doing the bumper lights, then started looking at clear corners as well. Then saw gen 3 headlight and clear corner sets on eBay and got to thinking.....

For you guys that have done clear corners only on your gen 3.5s, how satisfied are you with the way the clear corners match up with the factory headlights as far as the look of the glass? I've seen several posts, and in some pictures they seem to look good and in other pictures it seems like there's a noticeable difference between the headlight glass and the clear corner glass.

It's hard to determine from the various pics if I'll like the clear corners with the factory headlights any better than the factory corners.

That gets me to thinkging about doing the complete gen 3.5 to gen 3 grill and headlight conversion and getting a matched set of Depo headlights/corners, but that's obviously a lot more involved.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

as long as the headlights are clean then it looks great with just the corgners and turnsignals. u can do the gen3 conversion but that just requiers cutting off that lip on the top of the gen3.5 bumper.

u can also jsut try to ckear the lights urself. its tough but looks good with the gen3.5.

pm sk8rsublime, he cleared his corners himself and they look better then the depo clears.

Arent the factory headlights made of plastic and the DEPO headlights made of glass?

The plastic ones will yellow over time...im gonna get glass ones as soon as I can afford it.

3rd Generation

I'm pretty sure the depo are not glass. I haven't really done much with the set I got last week, so someone else might be able to shed some light on this (no pun intended).

As for glass, the only glass headlights that I know about for Camry's are on the gen 4 JDM camry's (Gracia).

they dont use glass anymore for the most part ... Depo's are plastic just like OEM, they are just clear [and use reflectors, i think] instead of having the lens optics that ours have

i replaced all my lights with depo, except the headlights so far..but with the corner lights u can deff tell the difference and some of my pics i took the lights looked fine next to the headlights, but then in others u can deff tell, but they are 11 year old headlights so they just need replaced or cleaned

im curious about the DEPOs too...i want clear headlights...but i have the Gen 3.5...so basically i just have to get the DEPO lights and then get a Gen 3 grill and i will be set? what lip has to be cut? i dont want to screw up the whole bumper just for lights. as for clearing the corners...get the Gen 3.5 OEM corners and bake them open and remove the yellow plastic. I would not recommend using the ones you already have because the housing on mine fell apart when i baked it, so mine are a little shotty right now. but i think they look better than the clears on the bay...but ive seen 2 different sets on there before, one with Vertical lines (like the gen 3.5 OEM lights) and one that has horizontal lines. personally i like the Vertical
lines better. sorry for rambling...lol

Thanks for the info yinger07. That's exactly what I was wondering after seeing the various pictures in the forum. May have to consider the total gen 3.5 to 3 conversion if I want to go Depo.

I've seen some other corner lights on eBay and elsewhere that are NOT Depo brand that don't look as clear as Depos, but don't have the amber lens either. They're clear, but look whiter than Depo. Might be a better match for the factory headlights. Hmmm.

Again, thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the info sk8ersublime. That's valuable input on the "baking" option. I really like the look of the Gen 3 grill with the complete set of Depos. Has a "meaner" look to it somehow than the 3.5 to me. A previous post said if you got the Gen 3.5 grill and set it in place it would be obvious what had to be trimmed. I know what you mean though. I'd hate to screw up my bumper in an attempt to replace perfectly good headlights.

I'll have to research a little more before making that jump. See if I can come up with corners that match the factory headlights really well.

In the mean time I'll entertain myself with the new head unit that's supposed to arrive UPS tomorrow.

bigbird,

Thanks for your feedback too. Just wanted to take the opportunity to say that your coupe is one of my faves on here. Love the "clean" look. Love the dark rims with polished lip. That's the look I'd like to go for, though I have a 4-door rather than a coupe.

I'm sure you've probably detailed this before somewhere, but can you fill me in on your fog lights and custom grill?

This corner appears to be an exact copy of the factory corners only without the amber. The patterns in the vertial lines on the right half, the honeycomb pattern on the left half, and the border are EXACTLY like my 95. Currently available on eBay.
