Ima
Anyone planning to do a weak hybrid conversion?or have you thought about it?feel free to share your opinions and bounce off Ideas.
As I see it ,the Honda IMA Integrated Motor Assist is a thin DC motor that sits between the engine and tranny and switches between motor and generator mode as needed.
its not a big motor, only 16 HP but its got 100ftlb of torque.
I dont want to split the engine and tranny and go down this path as I dont have the experience(or the cash) for it.
I read an article in which the company replaced the stock alternator with a beefier one which was doing the exact same thing --which is brilliant ,because with a new mounting plate for the alternator , a bigger belt, with a aux battery to power the alternator when its working as a motor ,you have a backward compatible system with pretty neat low end torque, and mild mpg gains to boot.
so 3 things ,mounting plate ,motor say 5-10 HP,Aux battery, controller.
Let me re-phrase that I dont want mpg gains.Only looking for more lower end pull with a torquey motor. As soon as the engine reaches about 25-30 mph ,the motor should smoothly transition off to be a generator.
thanks for your thoughts.
