Question Automatic Transaxle leak

I have a 1995 Toyota Camry 4 cyl. Automatic. The rear cover / plate on the transaxle differential housing appears to be leaking at the top. I cleaned everything good to locate the leak. First I changed the speedometer o-ring thinking that was the problem. The area again got wet with red fluid. The area around the base of the vent is dry. The fluid appears to be coming from the mating surface of the rear cover to the transaxle differential housing. I’m nervous about removing the cover plate, as I’m unsure what is behind it. I don’t want bearings, springs, and shafts etc falling out. Could someone please advise me as to what to expect if I remove the cover and replace the gasket /seal. I am aware that I will need to drain the fluid from the transaxle differential housing before removing the cover. Thanks for any help.

My FSM does not show the internal parts for trans or differential. The online manual only shows this: http://www.**********s.com/camry/ax1.pdf see page 2. There doesn't appear to be anything behind the cover that will pop out, as with most diff. covers. Unless someone else here can help you I would suggest going to a dealer and get a parts blowup of the differential cover area. If you buy the gasket from them maybe even the service dept. can tell you if you need to worry about parts falling out.

The cover appears not be retaining any parts, etc. A flat "paper" type gasket is between the cover and housing.

If the Gen 3 service manual does not not show the setup use the Gen 2 and look for the A140E differential.
