Question please...I ordered 6 qts of ATF for a fluid change from toyoautoparts for my Cam and I got Type T-IV, My owners manual calls for DexonII fluid for trans and power steering . Is the T-IV OK to use and is it better fluid that Dexon II?
Thanks in advance for the help,
RNB
You cant use that stuff in your transmission. You have to stay with Dexron compatible stuff.
Should have checked BEFORE ordering.
I checked several online vendors and "that stuff" is the fluid that they list for my auto. It is a syn. ATF fluid, So I did check before I ordered. Since my 95Camry is low milage ( 65,000) I am going to stick with Dexron II. You really must know a lot about Camrys since you have been able to accumulated 320,000 miles on yours.

Calm down there Sparky....dont get your panties in a wad.
When I said that you should have checked before ordering...i meant check here. There is a lot of useful info on this forum. Im still learning also....I never said I knew all there was to know. In fact...I just got this car from my dad about a month ago...those miles were from him and my step-mom...err ex-step-mom. Ive never even owned an automatic before...but ive been reading A LOT on these forums and other places to learn about the car. Mainly due to the fact that Im going to be doing a tranny fluid 'flush' soon, im trying to learn as much about that as possible.
Good luck with your car.

I searched TN and found as many opinions concerning ATF as well....
Toyota dealer said I could if I was having problems with shuttering. Local Toyota Master Tech said iffy, I am going with touringcamry and using DexronIII. I don't want to take a chance on leaks using Toyota Brand Syn. Type T-IV ATF. My trans shifts like silk and I don't want to mess it up. I'll leave that to the Gen 6 drivers
Help again. I purchased Castrol ATF multivehicle fluid that meets dexronII & III requirments. I emailed Castrol for assurance that this was the correct ATF for my car and the tech said yes, but I could not use it in the Differential! I am really confused now!!!
Please let me know what the TN thinks about this.
Thanks
RB
Toyota specifies Dex III for the differential for Gen 3 automatics. You'll be fine.
You will also use Dex III for the power steering fluid. Castrol won't know every little detail about every model car out there. They'd rather err on the side of caution than get slapped with a lawsuit because the person gave a wrong answer.

Thanks for the answer. I phoned Castrol's 800# and spoke with a tech rep. He assured me that the ATF I purchased would indeed work in the three areas that you mentioned.
